Who we serve best, and how

Who we serve best:

Two types of client

There are two types of clients I serve best:

  1. Pre-College Musical Theatre Performers:

In addition to many previous clients successfully placing in top musical theatre schools in Canada and the US, I have recently put a ton of additional time into tools, expertise, and strategy for pre-college musical theatre performers wanting college audition coaching in preparation for auditions to top musical theatre schools. Also, see the College Audition Coaching page.

  2. Pop and musical theatre singers of all levels… who share certain mindsets and goals:

I have a lot of experience with pop and theatre-based singers—amateur to pro, including complete beginners. This is a diverse range of singers, but people who choose to work with me tend to have certain specific mindsets and goals—read on…

The Mindset, here

No teacher can completely guarantee outcomes, but clients here generally want greater likelihood of results, with their technique and style, and/or with bigger specific goals, as well, via choosing to work with someone with deep training and diverse professional experience in pop and theatre.

Even clients who are mainly just studying singing for fun—they still want to study with a reputable, professional coach who they are confident they’ll get results with.

How CEVS serves you differently:

Boutique Studio—More ‘Thought per Client’:

CEVS is ‘full’ with just 8-12 regular clients. While I have a lot of diverse experience, I also recognize that no one is a true expert in everything. If I need to learn more about something to better serve a client, having a smaller client base leaves me with more time and bandwidth to research and design evidence-based solutions for each client’s specific challenges and goals.

Common Problems and Unique Solutions:

Singing lessons—even expensive ‘expert’ lessons come with some common risks and problems. Before you commit to a teacher, long term, it might be wise to ask how they address these common issues:

Problem #1—Technique improves… then hits a wall:

Some methods can help you unlock you lower mix/belt, but run out of moves when it comes to the really cool higher mix/belt notes.

Solution: I track client progress, health, and practise carefully, so we always know where the bottlenecks are, how long they’re there, and have a good idea of what needs to happen to keep improving.

I also studied a very effective method for many years, and augment this study with ongoing evidence-based vocal science, health, and pedagogy training. If you want further assurance, please see the case studies and testimonials. Also see The Method and Speech Level Singing.

Problem #2—Flashy studio, star clients… uneven results:

Some clients study for years at a top studio and find that their technique gets better, but they’re hitting a wall with some aspect of their singing and it holds them back for months or years. There can be not quite enough time and thought going into what specific changes are needed for an individual singer to get ‘unstuck’ so they can truly achieve their bigger picture goals.

Solution: To be fair, not all challenges can be solved, easily. Some solutions take more time and thought, and a well-structured curriculum. This is why I’ve moved to a smaller client base approach.

We’ll consider all of your musical and big picture goals, up front. I’ll be frank about what I can and can’t deliver at a high standard. But, if I say I’ll deliver… well, a lot of it will always come down to practise, but… I’ll deliver the coaching, and we’ll figure it out, together.

Some clients, here, just want chill (but quality) lessons—and that’s fine! But many have explicit or sometimes secret hopes of a bigger change—if that sounds like you, let’s talk about this, and get you all of the results you’re looking for.

Problem #3—Costs and Features:

It’s difficult to find the right balance of cost and expertise, and then there’s ‘being forced to pay for things you don’t want to’ and ‘not being able to get all the features you need.’

Solution: Small studios offering customized lessons we can tailor more specifically to your goals.

The No-Risk, Hassle-Free Money Back Guarantee:

If you’re not happy with your first lesson, or any lesson, just let me know, and the lesson will be free. This is easy for me to offer, because I want to deliver great value every single lesson. If a client doesn’t feel I delivered value, at any point, I don’t want to take money for that.

Much more important than the cost of a lesson, to me, is having the opportunity to deliver a meaningful change in your singing ability and larger musical goals. Let’s do this.
